OFHSA - Virtually Yours
Providing news & information to your Home & School e-community
February is a Time to CelebrateHearts and flowers and medals and appreciation and remembrance. All this in the shortest month of the year.
The Vancouver Olympics open on February 12th. Valentine's Day is on the 14th. Our newest holiday, Family Day on the 15th. And all of February is Black History Month.
Of particular interest to Home & School members are these two events: Teacher - Staff Appreciation Week February 14 - 20An initiative of the Canadian Home & School Federation this is the week during which we show our appreciation for all those who work in our public education system. Our bus drivers, EA's, cafeteria staff, teaching specialists, custodial staff, office administrators, principals and vice-principals and teachers. Each has a very important role to play in the education of our children and we thank them all. OFHSA would like to hear about TSAW activities in your school. So remember to take notes and snap photos. You might see your school celebrated on the OFHSA website!
Founders DayIn March of 1932, at the annual convention, a resolution was received from the National Federation of Home and School (now the Canadian Home and School Federation) which stated: "That the Founder of our organization, Mrs. A.C. Courtice be remembered with respect throughout Canada by the establishment of a Founder's Day. This may be done any way that seems suitable to local desires. We hope by this means to commemorate the memory of one who has been of untold value to the citizenship of Canada." While OFHSA no longer marks Founders Day they do continue to honour Mrs. Courtice. Upon completion of the Volunteer Skills Portfolio Home & School members are awarded the Ada Courtice Certificate of Learning and Leadership.
